I am getting a some what similar glitch in my video. Not nearly as bad as your but it is very annoying. I already tried updating my driver for my 9800 Pro and Directx. Hopefully it is a similar issue and will be resolved soon.

Someone please solve this problem, same thing happens to me, only it starts instantly when i start GW, it doesn't go away until i restart my computer (exiting guild wars doesn't get rid of the colored checkers). I can run WoW, Doom 3, all of that without any problems like this. The weird thing is that it didn't always happen, after playing the game for a few weeks there were always sometimes colored checkers in the scenery, and now my whole screen gets screwed. it seems like the checkers problem is related to the ATI radeon 9800 pro, that's only what i've gather by reading other posts on this forum. PLEASE HELP, cannot play game until this is fixed

bjro: Can you post a full laptop system spec for us?

Just wondering, but are your drivers fully updated? I should know this but my brain is slightly dead today...

It might be overheating. Try placing it on a cool table (maybe near an open window or something) to see if that helps. The reason I am suspecting that it's an overheating problem is because of the processor that you're running. These days people choose the PentiumM processors over the Pentium4 for their laptops because they produce less heat, and are overall better for mobile systems.
